In December, Tuttomercatoweb reported Celtic had scouted Venezia’s Issa Doumbia in a Serie B clash against Monza. The outlet also mentioned interest from Southampton, who have been keeping an eye on the player since the summer.
The report suggested that the Saints had offered €6m for the midfielder in the last window. This didn’t prove to be enough and, when the offer arrived, time was running out for the Italian club to find a replacement.
Attention around the Italy U21s player is growing again. Tuttomercatoweb take a closer look at his situation and there is a warning for both Martin O’Neill’s Celtic and Southampton.
The outlet note that Udinese are now trying to land the 22-year-old. Venezia don’t intend to let the player leave this month and this is why the Friulians will loan him back to the Serie B side.
This can prove key and would satisfy all the parties involved. Cremonese have also asked for information but as of now, Udinese are frontrunners in the race.
Celtic and Southampton still in the mix

There is confirmation that Southampton are still tracking the player. Celtic are also offering competition, having been impressed by his showings in the Italian second division. Espanyol and Club Brugge are also keeping an eye on the situation.
Everything can come down to Venezia’s stance over a transfer. If major offers are made, they can still open to a permanent exit this month. But so far, Udinese’s plan might suit them best and this should send alarm bells ringing in Glasgow and at St Mary’s.
Whether Celtic or Southampton would be prepared to loan Doumbia back is unclear.
He’s been one of Venezia’s better players this season, appearing 19 Serie B games and contributing to five goals. Doumbia also featured at the U21s European Championships last year and his stock is only likely to grow.
