The demolition of Cagliari’s former ground is close to being completed. The stadium was built whilst Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino was the president of the Sardinian club, but it was declared unfit after just a handful of games played there.
Unione Sarda have reported the demolition of the Stadio IS Arenas has nearly been completed after work began a few weeks ago to remove the main stand. The stadium was built in 2013, but only a few months later the council declared it to be unsafe.
A year after the stadium was built Cellino stepped down as the president of Cagliari in order to purchase Leeds United.
Cellino will still face the wrath of the Italian justice system over the building of Cagliari’s ground Stadio Is Arenas. Charges have been brought against the Leeds United chief, and a number of public officials for their role in the construction of the stadium.
In total eleven accused face charges over attempted embezzlement, unauthorised building and a non-compliance with the public authorities. Cellino himself was charged with attempted embezzlement for his role in the construction of Stadio Is Arenas.
The Leeds United boss is now likely to go on trial next month if the hearing isn’t cancelled again.
