Ascoli sporting director Francesco Marroccu is set to join Leeds United next month according to claims in Italy. The Italian has been linked with Leeds United in the past 12 months, and it seems Massimo Cellino has finally got his man.
Sardegna Sport have reported Marroccu has decided to step down as the sporting director of Ascoli after just a season in the role.
The Italian has recently held meetings with the leaders of the Serie B side over his future, and he’s taken the decision to leave when his contract expires on the 1st July.
Despite Ascoli avoiding the drop to Lega Pro last season Marroccu has decided to quit, with claims he will not head to Leeds United to be re-united Cellino.
Marroccu worked under Cellino at Cagliari where he was the sporting director of the Sardinian club.
Cellino tried to bring in Marroccu last summer to replace the departing Nicola Salerno, but the Leeds United owner was unsuccessful in his attempts despite their close relationship.
