Middlesbrough are said to have identified Valencia manager Carlos Corberán as a target to become Rob Edwards’ successor.

Boro gave Edwards permission to speak to Wolverhampton Wanderers over the vacant job at Molineux, and he’s since agreed a deal with Wolves.

Middlesbrough will have to find a new manager and Corberán has emerged as an option.

El Desmarque relay that and provide their own take on the Championship side’s rumoured interest in the 42-year-old. He left West Bromwich Albion to join Valencia in December 2024.

The outlet found out from their sources Middlesbrough haven’t made an approach to the Spaniard or Los Ches so far. Corberán remains focused on his job at the Spanish club.

The manager’s contract lasts until 2027 and the report says it includes a release clause, without mentioning the figure. Boro would have to activate this if they were to convince the former West Brom boss.

Valencia have 10 points from 12 matches and are 17th in the table, level on points with 18th placed Girona. On Sunday, Los Ches drew 1-1 against Real Betis.

After the match, Corberán was asked whether he knows anything about Middlesbrough’s interest in signing him. Another report from El Desmarque has relayed his comments.

“Regarding any rumours, I can only say that my commitment to turning things around is the absolute maximum. We’re going to give it our all to reverse this situation because nothing hurts us more than seeing Valencia like this,” he said.

Middlesbrough are second in the Championship table, five points behind leaders Coventry City.
