Everton have had something of a rollercoaster of a season under Carlo Ancelotti. At one point, with the Toffees topping the league, a march towards the top four and a Champions League place looked a realistic aim, and also the opportunity to finish about Liverpool.

James Rodriguez looked like one of the signings of the season, especially after it turned out Everton didn’t pay Real Madrid a transfer fee, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin was in red hot goalscoring form.

Things have drifted away, with Rodriguez not being consistently fit, and Ancelotti’s side seeing issues in various areas of the pitch. They now find themselves in eighth position and the hopes of earlier in the season have largely gone.

Still, there’s faith from many that Ancelotti will get it right eventually, and that’s a sentiment shared by Villiam Vecchi. The goalkeeping coach currently works at Al Sadd, but he previously spent several years alongside Everton’s current manager.

Speaking to Passione del Calcio, Vecchi was asked about his former colleague, and said: “I was lucky enough to work with one of the best coaches in the world. His human and professional qualities are not in dispute. With Everton he is struggling but building a good base.”

Vecchi worked with Ancelotti at Reggiana, Parma, Juventus, AC Milan and Real Madrid, yet there was no mention in the interview about what stopped their partnership.
