Wales’ UEFA Nations League group consists of Turkey, Iceland and Montenegro, and Craig Bellamy’s side kick-start their campaign against Turkey later today in Cardiff.

Bellamy was appointed manager without any prior semior management experience, with Welsh fans having been left frustrated under the stewardship of much-liked Rob Page, whose reign ended after the poor showing at Euro 2024.

That is precisely why the game against Turkey could help set the tone for Bellamy’s stint.

In the meantime, Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut has had some words to say about the game, as his country will take on Wales at the Blues’ home stadium.

He told Turkish outlet Hurriyet: “It will be a new beginning against Wales. I think that the [Turkish] national team should come out on top of the group in the UEFA Nations League with a good performance.”

Bulut also stated that Turkey are a bit ahead of Bellamy’s Wales and should get the win.

“Their manager Craig Bellamy has just taken office. It will also be his first match, he will want to show himself. I think it will be a good match.

“I see the [Turkish] national team a little ahead with its quality and the football it plays. There were ups and downs at Euro 2024, but I think the national team will win the Wales match.”

Bellamy will manage his first game as manager in the city that he was born in and will be hoping that things go as per plan in Cardiff, despite the fact that Turkey sparkled at the European championships.

It’s a big ask.
