On December 11th, we carried a report from France Football, who claimed that Cardiff City were leading the race for Emiliano Sala of Nantes.

At the end of last month, the same publication reported the Ligue 1 side had ‘discreetly’ negotiated with the Bluebirds for the striker’s transfer.

Neil Warnock had earlier admitted that his side’s effort were initially knocked back, but there’s now an ‘unprecedented situation’ with regards to the 28-year-old, according to L’Equipe.

For a month, the two clubs have held an agreement for €22.5m for the Argentine’s transfer, but he didn’t view a move to the Premier League very well because he was hoping to join a side that playing in European competition.

Nantes president Waldermar Kita wants to see Sala leave in January and his willingness to sell has seen the player hold talks with the Cardiff manager in Wales on Monday.

This doesn’t mean that Sala’s move to the Cardiff City Stadium is going to take place in the coming days because he hasn’t yet made a decision on his future.

L’Equipe make it clear that the trip to Cardiff isn’t a sign of anything on its own. It will depend how persuasive Neil Warnock managed to be.
