Sporting’s interest in Coventry City striker Viktor Gyökeres is now confirmed by the Portuguese club.
Lions’ president Frederico Varandas was, last night, interviewed by Sporting TV. And when asked about their chase for the player, he admitted that the 25-year-old is on their list for the summer window. Those quotes are brought by Portuguese newspaper Record.
“My coach said he wants to get a striker. So, a striker for sure, and probably more entries in other positions,” Varandas told Sporting TV.
“I won’t say it’s a lie, he’s one of the referenced. The values spoken, €15-20m, this is a consequence of evolution… In five years we have been growing. If we have to go to €20m, we have the capacity for that.”
Record also features a separated short piece about Gyökeres, who’s currently out with the Swedish national team.
It’s claimed that despite being focused on the international games, the striker is ‘thinking about his future’ at the same time and ‘seduced’ by what the Lions have to offer.
With Coventry City reportedly demanding €20m for the move, it’s said it requires a ‘patience game’ from Sporting.
Gyökeres had 22 goals and 12 assists in 50 appearances for the English club this season, and that not only drew the interest from the Lions, but from Premier League clubs as well.
However, the Portuguese media hasn’t been hugely concerned about that competition, and remains hopeful the Lisbon club will reach a deal for the move.
