When Boubacar Kamara decided to leave Marseille on a free to go to Aston Villa, there was a lot of sadness in the south of France.
Firstly because the player was leaving the club of his childhood, but mostly because he was doing so in a manner that many felt lacked respect.
Among those was Samir Nasri, who spoke to Zack Nani on Twitch on his show, Zack En Roue Libre, relayed by Sport.fr.
The now retired footballer was in a similar position to the Aston Villa player before his move to Arsenal, but he explained that he could never have done what Kamara did this summer.
He even spoke to the defensive midfielder about it, advising him to choose a different path, especially when the clubs after him weren’t in the elite.
Nasri said: “When I saw the clubs that wanted him in the summer, I told him ‘stay in Marseille’. You leave Marseille if it’s really to make a leap forward, that will help your career, for you ambitions. They’re your formative club, it’s your city, you grew up here, you can’t leave on a free. Go and when you come back, everyone is happy to see you and you know that you’re not having a baby behind their back.
“I owed a lot to Marseille. I could have signed to Arsenal on a free, but it was impossible for me. It was my city, my club, I was formed there, I couldn’t go for €0 and say ‘Ciao, I used you’. It was impossible, I had to extend and to get the club some money.”
Since joining Aston Villa, the 23-year-old has made 20 appearances in the Premier League and assisted one goal, but has found himself out of the squad over the past few games because of an injury picked up in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.
