It seems Gustavo Scarpa had just been waiting for Palmeiras to win the Brazilian League title so he could finally speak about his upcoming move to Nottingham Forest.

The midfielder’s contract with the Verdão is expiring at the end of the year, and as previously reported, he already had a pre-agreement to join the Reds in the January transfer window.

So with the Brazilian season nearly over and Palmeiras crowned champions, it’s time for him to be more open about the exit to Nottingham Forest, and speaking to club fans at PodPorco, he talked about the excitement for this new challenge.

“I’m leaving the Brazilian champion. I know how much it took to earn the respect and admiration of fans at a club like Palmeiras. It’s the experience, opportunity. I’m super happy, super excited. What I really like is challenge. It’s a three-and-a-half-year contract,” Gustavo Scarpa told PodPorco (via ESPN Brasil).

Regarding Nottingham Forest’s poor campaign, as they currently stand on the bottom of the Premier League table, Scarpa claims to be prepared for the challenge, pretending not to have watched the Reds being beated by Arsenal 5-0.

“I watched part of the match against Liverpool. Against Arsenal… I didn’t see it (laughs).”

“But when I get there, it can’t get any worse. The team is in last, whichever comes is profit. It’s difficult.”

The midfielder also made it clear that a potential relegation at the end of the season isn’t something that would scare him in his first few months in England.

“Modesty aside, I know I leave here with open doors. That was my real intention to have been transparent in the negotiation. I want to leave, I signed a pre-contract, but I’d like to stay here until the end. I expressed my desire to leave. If they get relegated, I’ll deal with it there. If I do well and have another chance, even better. My idea is not to come back at the first difficulty.”

Palmeiras still have three more games to play until the end of the Brazilian season. Those are all before the World Cup, so it’s very likely Scarpa will soon travel to start his adaptation at Nottingham Forest.
