As you might recall, Napoli swooped in very late in the January transfer window for Leander Dendoncker, bringing the midfielder from Aston Villa in on loan with an option to buy.
This came at a time when the player wanted more game time than he was getting under Unai Emery with the Euros in mind, but the move has completely backfired.
Gazzetta dello Sport look at how bad Napoli’s transfers have been since they won the title under Luciano Spalletti, and the Aston Villa man gets a mention.
In fact, his situation is left until the very end of the section regarding January transfers, and they have very little to bring to the table about it.
They write: ‘What can be said about Dendoncker, as the 21 minutes he has played with Napoli do not even make him evaluation worthy’.
In short, he has played so little that they aren’t even bothered to judge his performances, making him the biggest flop of that transfer window for the Serie A side.
There are still a few games left between now and the end of the season, but with Francesco Calzona seemingly happy to use other players, it seems unlike that Dendoncker will get that much more game time and will be returning to Aston Villa in the summer.
