All of a sudden, Antonio Conte’s return to Chelsea really became a topic in the Italian media.
That all started this week, when a report claimed that the manager used an intermediary with good connections with the Blues to make known he’s available to return to Stamford Bridge.
Now as TMW Radio today had Marco Piccari talking about the coach’s future, there were some comments about his potential return to Chelsea.
“I don’t know, on Conte I would leave various scenarios open because we can’t give anything for certain. If he wants to coach in Italy with the old system, i.e. asking for a high salary and high quality players, it’s better for him to go to the Premier League. If he wants to go that route he can go to Chelsea. If instead he wants to coach in Italy he must take a different path.”
Conte alone would draw enough interest from the Italian media, but the story becomes a lot bigger because, with many Serie A sides changing coaches at the end of the season he had been linked to a new job there. Napoli was to be leading the race for him.
Now it seems the general feeling is that Chelsea would have the manager’s preference, even though he’s still to publicly talk about that possibility.
The Blues are still to take a decision on the future of Mauricio Pochettino, and it remains to be seen whether Conte would actually be considered to replace the Argentine this summer.
