Leeds United allowed Marc Roca to join Real Betis on a season-long loan deal in July.

Ramón Planes, the Spanish club’s sporting director, has analysed his side’s business for Betis TV, and his comments are relayed by Marca.

The Leeds owned player has made three appearances for the La Liga side and has fallen in love with his new club, according to the director.

Planes has also insisted it was “not easy” for Real Betis to carry out the deal for the 26-year-old since there were several teams that wanted to sign him.

Leeds took the player from Bayern Munich in 2022 and handed him a deal lasting until 2026.

The midfielder took advantage of the clause in his contract to seal an exit should Leeds face relegation from the Premier League.

Planes has revealed Roca was so keen on joining Manuel Pellegrini’s side that he called him regularly to make sure the transfer went through.

“He was desperate, he called every day. He left because of a good contract situation,” Planes said.

“In those countries, as we are talking about Arabia, you have to understand that they are brutal economic amounts, the difference is very big, but then you go there and you realise how much you have lost.

“And I think he realised he wanted to return and that’s how he told us. And I told him ‘calm down, we’re going to do it’, but Marc is a boy who’s going to give us a lot. When the possibility with Manuel was seen, he immediately told us yes, that he knew him, the season is very long and he’s going to give us many things.”

Roca will have to return to Leeds after his loan spell at Betis this season.
