Caleb Yirenkyi’s move to Coventry City will see FC Nordsjælland break a transfer record for the Superliga.
Tipsbladet report that the Premier League are set to pay €27m, 202.5 million kroner, in fixed a fee and €3m in bonuses for the 20-year-old. He’s now set for a medical with Frank Lampard’s side.
€27m Upfront
According to the outlet, Nordsjælland will become the first Danish club to ever sell a player for over 200 million kroner.
Their football director, Alexander Riget, has agreed a deal with Coventry. They have now struck the agreement for a €27m immediate payment – a so-called fixed fee – and around €3m in bonuses in the future. He will become Coventry’s most expensive purchase to date.
According to Tipsbladet’s information, Caleb Yirenkyi chose Coventry over other options. Lampard and co have made it clear that he will play a big role in the team. Coventry have guaranteed him playing time in the Premier League this season.
One a medical and the contract signing are now missing. Once they finish, he will become the biggest sale ever in the Superliga.
Nordsjælland have left Yirenkyi out of the squad travelling to Iceland on Wednesday for Thursday’s match against Valur. The Danish club are refusing to comment on the matter for now.
Departure Was Expected
But a departure has been long in the making. Riget was targeting a sale to a top five league and wanted to break that 200 million kroner ceiling. Indeed, he was hinting at a move back in December.
“Caleb is about to have played a lot of games, and we have made some plans with him,” he said.
“So, it could well be a summer sale, because he has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Super League, although I would say that he has looked a little tired towards the end.
“He is enormously mature. We have agreed that he does not need an intermediate step in a Dutch sub-top club or the bottom of the Bundesliga. He is ready, we think, to move directly to a top five league and also a bit above that.”
