Portuguese side Sporting may not be the richest club in the race to sign Viktor Gyökeres from Coventry City this summer, but the Lisbon media continue to make it clear that the Lions shall fight for this transfer until the end.
It’s newspaper Record who today details the Lions’ efforts to land the 25-year-old. And as they explain the competition the club are set to have, they add the likes of Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers to that race.
The story first claims that Sporting manager Ruben Amorim has set Gyökeres as the priority target for the summer. The Portuguese club now struggle with the price for this transfer, which is set to be over €20m.
Speaking of the competition, Record explains there are many clubs trying to keep the striker in England. Burnley are one of them, as they ‘try to tighten the siege’ for the signing. Wolves, meanwhile, are named among a shortlist of Premier League sides who have a ‘bigger financial capacity’ than Sporting.
The Lisbon side are not used to fighting for players of that price, but following Manuel Ugarte’s sale to Paris Saint Germain, they do have good resources to compete for what they consider to be an expensive signing.
Now for them to stay alive in that battle, it shall depend on how hard Burnley, Wolves and others will push for the transfer.
