Burnley can only sign Carlos Forbs on loan from Ajax this month, if they agree to a mandatory purchase clause being included in the deal.
That’s according to journalist Mike Verweij, relayed by Soccer News, who says Ajax want to ensure they get something for the winger in the summer if they are to let him leave this month.
Forbs joined the Dutch giants in a €14m deal from Manchester City but has struggled to establish himself in the first team so far, featuring in just 38% of the available minutes in the league to date.
That has led to suggestions he could be moved on this month and there is interest in him in the Premier League, with it reported earlier this week that Burnley had enquired about a potential deal for him.
They were reportedly eyeing a loan for the 19-year-old, offering him game time between now and the end of the season as Vincent Kompany looks to bolster his squad for their battle against relegation from the Premier League.
That’s a possibility, according to Verweij, but for it to happen Burnley will have to agree to an obligation to buy Forbs in the summer being included in the deal.
“There are even five clubs for Forbs of which Nottingham Forest is not serious at all,” he said on the Kick-Off podcast.
“They are not very concrete yet. Ajax is still struggling with it. Ajax does not want to rent him out.
“Ajax only wants to rent him if there is a mandatory purchase option. So, they only want that if they are sure that he will win the main prize in the summer.
“That remains something astonishing: everyone sees that those players are not functioning, but Ajax will also get that purchase amount back for Forbs.”
