Burnley striker Wout Weghorst has been spotted at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport, fueling speculation he may be on his way to Ajax.
ESPN cover the situation on their transfer blog and report that the Burnley striker has been spotted at the airport in Amsterdam as his future remains uncertain.
The Dutch forward has been linked with a move away from Burnley throughout the summer so far after returning from a loan spell at Hoffenheim last season.
All indications have been that he will look for an exit once again, having previously made it clear he had no intention of playing for Burnley in the Championship the last time they were in the division.
A return to the Netherlands has been presented as his best option and several sides have expressed an interest in him, including Ajax. ESPN now report the striker has been spotted at Schiphol airport, naturally ramping up speculation about a move to the Dutch side.
There’s no mention of them beyond that, and there hasn’t been since earlier this month either, when it was reported that Ajax needed to move players on before they could make their move.
Given they still have Chuba Akpom, Brian Brobbey and Julian Rijkhoff in the squad it seems unlikely that there’s room for Weghorst as yet, unless there’s been a change in stance and they’d now like a fourth option in the group.
