Burnley defender Oliver Sonne has joined Czech Republic side Sparta Prague on loan until the end of the season.
That’s according to Tipsbladet. They report that Burnley and Sparta Prague have struck an agreement for the right-back.
According to their information, the Burnley defender is set to undergo a medical tomorrow after the agreement was struck. He will then sign a loan deal until the end of the season.
The agreement has been done between Burnley and Sparta Prague and finalised. It does not include a purchase option for the defender. He had also been linked with a move to FC Copenhagen, but Sparta have snapped him up instead.
The Czech club have already signed Andrew Irving from West Ham this month, and their recruitment is being guided by Tomáš Rosický.
Sonne has found himself out of Scott Parker’s plans this season following the arrival of Kyle Walker in the summer. He was a substitute in the weekend’s draw against Tottenham.
But he wants to get more regular playing time between now and the end of the season and so is set to head out of Turf Moor on a temporary loan deal. What happens in the summer, remains to be seen.
If Burnley can avoid relegation, it is likely that Walker will remain long-term. If they cannot, a departure may be on the cards. That would open the door for Sonne to earn his place back. If not, a permanent exit is surely on the cards. That might be dependent on how he gets on at Sparta Prague, though.
