Burnley striker Wout Weghorst is ‘flirting with’ a return to the Bundesliga this summer and could be an option for Bayer Leverkusen.
That’s according to Kicker, who say the Dutch striker may be made available on loan again after returning from his loan spell at Manchester United.
Weghorst spent the second half of last season on loan at Old Trafford from Burnley, who broke an agreement with Besiktas to let the player join Erik ten Hag’s side.
That deal has now come to an end, and he’s returned to Turf Moor, although whether he is a part of Vincent Kompany’s plans remains to be seen.
The belief is that he won’t be in the Belgian’s squad moving forward and Kicker report that the 30-year-old is ‘flirting with’ a return to the Bundesliga.
They report that he could be available on loan again and Leverkusen are one of the places where he could end up being ‘sought-after’.
They’re currently trying to sign Niclas Füllkrug from Werder Bremen, but it seems if they can’t get him, Weghorst may be the alternative option.
For now, he’s back at Burnley and part of pre-season, but clearly thinking about a return to the Bundesliga, where he already enjoyed a successful spell earlier in his career.
