Wout Weghorst has a plethora of transfer choices ahead of him right now, which can surely only be good for Burnley and the transfer fee they can expect this summer.

The big striker raised his profile further during Euro 2024, getting praise in sections of the Dutch media which had previously been a little snobbish about the centre forward.

Prior to the tournament it had been FC Twente who were thought to be the likeliest destination but their optimism started to wobble as he did well.

Interest from Turkey has been no surprise, although it was reported this week that the player’s family may not be so keen on a move there.

Now the man of the transfer moment has had his own say, and was asked about rumours linking him with a move to Ajax.

In response, Kicker quote him as saying: “For me, the whole package has to be right. We are having our fourth child and we have traveled a lot as a family in recent years. I am looking for a permanent place for us, so home is definitely an option. Ajax is the biggest club in the Netherlands, I don’t need to say more.”

Weghorst was then asked if he’s in search of happiness and shot that angle down, insisting he’s been happy for a long time and enjoying his football: “No, I’m very happy and have been lucky with my clubs over the past few years, even if they were different ones. Moving to Burnley in the Premier League was a dream come true, and my time in Istanbul was amazing. It was just the perfect fit for me as a footballer in terms of fans, emotions and passion. It was an incredible experience.”
