Burnley are now being dragged into the race for Famalicão winger Sorriso, with claims from Brazil that the Championship side are monitoring the Brazilian ahead of the next transfer window.
The Clarets have dropped back into the second tier after another difficult Premier League campaign, so their summer recruitment will need to serve two purposes.
They need players capable of making an immediate impact in the Championship, while also building a squad strong enough for another promotion push. That is where Sorriso becomes an interesting name.
According to Brazilian outlet RTI Esporte, Burnley are one of the clubs following the 25-year-old. Braga and Wolfsburg are also in the picture, while a club from Major League Soccer are said to be watching the situation.
Famalicão are now prepared to discuss a sale at around €7m (£5.9m). That is some way below the winger’s €20m (£17m) release clause, but it would still represent a major deal for the Portuguese club.
Burnley looking at wide options
Sorriso has developed into one of Famalicão’s more valuable attacking assets since arriving in Portugal.
He is originally a left winger, although the Brazilian can also operate across the forward line. That flexibility should appeal to Burnley, especially if their next squad rebuild places emphasis on speed, direct running and players who can cover multiple roles.
Sorriso is under contract until June 2029, which gives Famalicão a strong negotiating position. Transfermarkt currently values him at €5m (£4.2m), so the reported €7m asking price would sit above that valuation.
Numbers explain the interest
Sorriso’s 2025/26 season gives Burnley a clear reason to keep watching him. He finished his campaign with five goals and four assists in the Liga Portugal.
Those numbers are not explosive of course. They do, however, suggest a player trusted to play regularly and contribute from wide areas.
Sorriso’s profile is built around pace, dribbling and tactical versatility, giving Burnley a player who can stretch defences and operate in more than one attacking role.
Championship recruitment often requires players who can handle volume, physical games and tight turnarounds. Sorriso has already shown he can be a regular starter in a competitive European league.
What happens next
Sorriso is not short of suitors, and Braga appear to be the club moving earliest.
RTI Esporte report that the Portuguese side have already opened preliminary talks to understand the conditions of a deal. Wolfsburg bring Bundesliga pull, while the MLS interest could add another financial route.
Burnley’s position is therefore worth watching. The Clarets may have more spending power than many Portuguese clubs, yet they also need to convince Sorriso that a move to the Championship is the right step.
A €7m (£5.9m) fee would be manageable for many English sides, especially for a player tied down until 2029 and already established in Portugal.
It could become an opportunity to move early for a wide player before a wider auction develops.
