Clearly not part of Vincent Kompany’s plans at Burnley, Darko Churlinov was sent to Schalke 04 on loan for the rest of the season.
The 23-year-old is expected to finish the season with the 2.Bundesliga side, who will then have the decision to make over whether to keep the Clarets winger permanently or not.
The big problem for Schalke 04 at this moment in time is their dreadful league position, meaning they are close to being relegated once again, this time to the third tier, and their recent loss saw the Burnley loanee react emotionally, as pointed out by WAZ.
Covering the 3-0 loss against Magdeburg at the weekend, the outlet focus on the forward, who was in tears after the game as he went to see the travelling fans.
They say that when the team thanked the supporters for their support, he ‘became emotional and cried in front of the visitors’ corner’, as they chanted the likes of “We want to see you fight” at their players.
It’s recalled the player ‘really wanted’ to return to Schalke 04 after his initial successful spell there and wanted to help them fight against relegation.
However, he has only been able to do so sporadically of late, and his performance against Magdeburg was one to forget, as he was ‘completely inconspicuous’ despite being in the starting line up before being taken off at half time.
If the Germans want to make the move permanent, they will have to pay Burnley somewhere between €2-3m for him, but if they get relegated, that will become a fee they will go nowhere near.
