Burnley defender Quilindschy Hartman has “clearly indicated” that he is open to a move to Ajax in the January transfer window.
That’s according to journalist Mike Verweij, via Voetbal Primeur. He covers the Burnley full-back today amid reports of a potential move to Ajax next month.
Hartman has been impressing for Burnley since joining them from Feyenoord in the summer. he had been keen to leave the Dutch side as he sought to take a step up in his career.
Burnley provided that opportunity, in the Premier League no less, and the defender jumped at the opportunity. He has, though, regularly indicated that he sees the Clarets as an intermediary step to a bigger move in future.
That could now be on offer sooner than he thinks. A report in the Netherlands this week indicated that Ajax have made a move for him. In fact, that report stated that they already have a personal agreement in place for a loan from Burnley.
Verweij now reports that Ajax had been hoping for new negotiations to take place today (Tuesday), after receiving positive signals from the Burnley defender.
“I have heard from several sources within Ajax that he clearly indicated that he was open to joining Ajax,” he said.
“That may have changed now under pressure from many angry Feyenoord fans. Those are nice sentiments, but it’s essentially irrelevant. A player should simply be able to move from club A to club B.”
He, though, indicates that Hartman has now backed out of the deal. A report last night had indicated Hartman had done so because of his ties to Feyenoord. That’s something the Dutch giants were not expecting.
“Within Ajax, they still thought that negotiations would continue today (Tuesday),” he added.
“This was based on the fact that Hartman was open to joining Ajax. That also makes sense, because he didn’t play in the last few matches for Burnley and the World Cup is approaching.”
“At Ajax, as an international player, you more or less have a guarantee that you will play every game. Whatever he chooses, it is crucial for him that he chooses a club where he will play regularly.”
