Having endured a very difficult time at Marseille since his signing there after a big kerfuffle involving Watford, Pape Gueye wants to move on, and Burnley are interested.
The midfielder’s contract with the Ligue 1 side is set to expire at the end of the season, and now is a prime time for clubs to buy him for cheap as a January reinforcement.
That’s what Burnley have in mind, according to Foot Mercato, who explain that Marseille are having to deal with ‘incessant approaches’ from the Clarets for 24-year-old.
Vincent Kompany’s side want to sign him ‘as soon as this winter’, even if they know they won’t be able to use him straight away, since he is with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations.
His contract situation plays in Burnley’s favour, and Marseille know that now is the best time for them to sell to at least get some money for a player who doesn’t appear overly keen on staying.
Since joining the southern French club, Gueye has made 103 appearances for them in all competitions, scored four goals and assisted another three.
