AS Roma are set to provide competition to Burnley in their efforts to try and retain Lorenz Assignon.
That’s according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, who indicates Burnley will have a tough task to secure another agreement for the 24-year-old.
Burnley took the right-back on loan from Stade Rennais in the winter market and he made 15 league appearances for them.
Roma have already completed the signing of Enzo Le Fée from the Ligue 1 side and they intend to return to the French club for Assignon.
Di Marzio claims the Giallorossi are looking to strengthen the right-back position this summer and the Frenchman’s name stands out.
The Clarets were relegated from the Premier League last season, but that hasn’t stopped them from considering extending his stay.
The journalist states Scott Parker’s side ‘would like to buy’ Assignon, but it won’t be easy for them because the player’s first choice is to join Roma. Therefore, Burnley will have to convince Assignon to change his mind if they want to secure his services again.
At this moment in time, the Italian club have Assignon in their target list and Di Marzio makes no mention of their willingness to make an approach to sign him.
