Having lost their first two games of the season, Burnley were handed a reality check that the Premier League won’t be as straightforward as the Championship.
The Clarets walked to the title last year and bolstered their squad over the summer, but they will take time to gel.
Still, Vincent Kompany isn’t entirely happy with his current squad at Turf Moor, and is trying to add an extra in body in midfield, with L’Equipe claiming it will be Han-Noah Massengo.
The 22-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Bristol City, and many are a bit astonished he still doesn’t have a club at this stage of the summer.
That looks set to change, though, as Burnley are ‘in advanced contacts’ with him about signing at Turf Moor, and the move could ‘quickly’ happen.
It’s added that Kompany had made him a ‘priority these past few weeks’, showing just how keen the Belgian manager is to sign Massengo.
However, it’s then made clear that no agreement has been reached just yet, but the talks are ‘advancing’.
Falling out of favour at Bristol City last season, the young midfielder was sent on loan at AJ Auxerre for the second half of the campaign, where he found some game time and was picked for the France U21 team in the process, making 15 appearances in all competitions and picking up one assist.
