Augsburg defender Felix Uduokhai has denied he has an offer from Newcastle United after reports of a €25m bid from the Magpies.

Newcastle are desperately scouring the market for a new centre-back before the end of the transfer window as Eddie Howe looks to improve a problem area in his squad.

They’ve been linked with centre-backs all over Europe in the last few weeks, with Uduokhai one of those named as a potential target.

A report from Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb on the 14th January made it clear that Newcastle were interested in the defender and had €25m ready to secure his signature.

In fact, they were said to have made ‘important contacts’ about a potential move before the end of this month.

At the time, we stated it was a little strange for an Italian outlet to be providing transfer information on a player at a German club, although it might have had something to do with Napoli also reportedly being keen.

It seems reports of Newcastle making moves were wide of the mark, though, at least as far as Uduokhai is concerned.

“I can say for sure, I haven’t received any news from England myself,” Traunsteiner Tagblatt report him saying.

“I’m not interested either; I have other more important things on my mind at the moment.”

That would seemingly put an end to this particular rumour for the time being, although with the money the Magpies are throwing around, there is plenty of time for that to change.
