Liverpool manager Arne Slot

Arne Slot’s future at Liverpool is not rock solid, by any means, and now an unnamed Bundesliga club have made an enquiry about the Dutch coach.

After a sensational debut campaign that delivered a Premier League title, Slot now finds himself under growing scrutiny. The 2-1 defeat to Brighton this weekend left Liverpool fifth, five behind Aston Villa in fourth and six behind Manchester United in third.

It was also Liverpool’s 10th loss of the season, the first time that’s happened in a decade. Some sections of the fanbase are calling for Slot to go at the end of the season as a result.

Bundesliga interest quietly emerges

That, it seems, has alerted potential European suitors. According to Transfermind, a Soccer News podcast, a top German club has already made an enquiry about Arne Slot’s situation.

Transfer journalist Mounir Boualin revealed that a Bundesliga giant is monitoring developments closely, aware that the pressure is building at Liverpool.

“I heard that a German club is already cautiously inquiring about Slot’s situation,” he said.

“If Liverpool and Slot were to part ways after this season, then this Bundesliga club is certainly an option.”

He was then asked if the club in question is Bayern Munich. Boualin does not rule that particular move out.

“Perhaps Pep Guardiola leaves Manchester City, and then Vincent Kompany could come into the picture in Manchester. In that case, it is quite possible that Bayern Munich ends up with Slot.”

Ajax also watching closely

Arne Slot’s name has also resurfaced in Amsterdam. De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweik reported this week that Ajax director Jordi Cruijff is very charmed by Erik ten Hag and Slot. He, reportedly, views them as the only Dutch candidates capable of leading Ajax’s rebuild.

“I think they are the only two Dutch candidates he sees as a suitable manager for Ajax at the moment; otherwise, he will look abroad,” he told Kick Off.

“In this case, that might well be Spain, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be.”

Despite that interest, the Amsterdammers have not yet reached out to the Liverpool manager. But Verweij does believe Slot could be an option.

“Slot was already on Overmars’ list back then, but Feyenoord beat him to it. In that regard, it doesn’t sound strange to me that he would be a candidate. And certainly not strange if he leaves Liverpool.”

A pivotal few months ahead

The rest of Liverpool’s season now carries enormous weight. Success could stabilise Arne Slot’s position. Failure, though, could trigger a summer of upheaval. With interest from Germany and the Netherlands, the 47-year-old may find several escape routes opening at once.

That is, of course, if he leaves Anfield in the summer. At least in such a scenario the Dutchman can be confident he’ll find interest elsewhere and opportunities on offer.

Bayern Munich would be especially interesting, although that one looks a long shot at the minute.
