In their magazine this week, SportBild have an interview with Borussia Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke, and they probe a little about Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s big money move to Manchester United.
Watzke and Jose Mourinho are apparently very good friends, and SportBild wanted to know if that friendship was tested when Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund locked horns in transfer talks.
In his reply, Watzke revealed a telephone call with Mourinho, which made sure everything would remain cordial.
“Of course we have personally talked about it, and for me a remarkable statement by Jose remained hanging, about which I have been thinking a lot.
“He said: At the end you decide. And no matter how the thing goes – the important thing is that our friendship does not suffer. Because there are many more good players than good friends. He’s absolutely right.”
Good guy Mourinho is not a story often told. And it would appear whilst Mino Raiola was kicking over chairs and shouting the odds (according to SportBild at the time), Mourinho kept himself very much out of things.
