Newcastle United closed 2025 with a positive result and strong individual signals from Bruno Guimarães, who continues to be a central figure at St James’ Park as the new year begins.
The Brazilian midfielder captained Newcastle in the 3-1 win over Burnley, scoring the side’s final goal of the match.
Speaking to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte after the game, Guimarães reflected on his form and the balance he has found between individual output and collective responsibility.
“It’s been a spectacular season so far for me in individual terms,” he said. “I’ve managed to keep the collective spirit and the commitment to the team, but right now I’m also adding goal contributions. That’s not what guides my game, but it’s an extra and shows my evolution.”
The goal against Burnley was Guimarães’ sixth in the Premier League this season, to go with two assists. Joelinton and Yoane Wissa were also on the scoresheet as Newcastle ended the year in 10th place with 26 points.
Newcastle United player is all about the team

The midfielder’s growing influence, both with and without the ball, has been a constant theme for Eddie Howe’s side. Looking ahead, Guimarães made it clear that consistency remains his priority.
“I’m a player who always tries to be available and give my maximum in every match,” he explained. “These numbers come from that commitment, both in training and in games. We work with a philosophy where the team is always above any individual.”
Beyond club football, the midfielder also has one eye on the World Cup later this year. For now, though, his focus remains on maintaining his level at Newcastle United, ensuring his performances continue to serve the team’s objectives.
