It’s no secret Edinson Cavani waited until the end of the transfer window to choose a club to sign for.

Following the expiration of his contract with Paris Saint Germain, the striker calmly waited for the best option to show up.

Even though his agreement with Manchester United was widely reported in the final weeks of the market, there are now some claims saying he was still negotiating with other clubs.

Portuguese journalist Vitor Pinto was live on CMTV last night, and claimed that besides Benfica, there were another Portuguese big club who were interested in Cavani’s signing.

He says the player’s brother wasn’t in Portugal ‘for vacations’, as he clearly had business there, even though he was supposed to be in Manchester at that stage.

Vitor Pinto doesn’t make it clear who the club was, although we can obviously guess that it was either Sporting or Porto.

Edinson Cavani ended up agreeing to a one-year deal with Manchester United, with the option to extend it for a further one.

Due to quarantine rules, he won’t be able to make his debut for the club this weekend, but could make an appearance against his former club, Paris Saint-Germain, next week.
