The Argentine media continues to consider Alexis Mac Allister’s transfer from Argentinos Juniors to Brighton & Hove Albion a done deal.
The only doubt about it now is when the player will join the Seagulls, since he doesn’t have an EU passport.
Local newspaper Olé has a story today claiming that the spots in Brighton’s squad for non-EU citizens are filled, so Mac Allister would have to spend the next few months somewhere else.
They say the club’s intention ‘would be’ to send him to ‘the second division’, so the midfielder can keep the playing rhythm until he’s ready to officially join the club.
We must point out that South Americans have problems getting a work permit in England, so it’s strange that a 20-year-old would just arrive and be able to play in the Championship on a loan deal.
At the weekend, the Argentine version of Marca claimed that Mac Allister would be loaned back to Argentinos Juniors until the end of the season.
That makes much more sense.
The transfer has been revealed by Cristian Malaspina, president of Argentinos Juniors, last Friday. He claimed that Brighton are paying US$8.5m for the player, and the Argentine club will have 15% of the profit from a future sale.
