Luca Kerber performances for 1. FC Saarbrücken have seen him end up on Brighton & Hove Albion’s transfer radar, according to a report from Germany.

The 20-year-old has made 16 appearances for the third division German club this season, mainly operating as a defensive midfielder. He was also deployed in middle of the pitch and as an attacking midfielder.

Kerber’s fine displays in the first half of this season has aroused interest from England, where Brighton are said to be interested to secure his services.

That’s according to Bild, who explain the versatile player doesn’t have a release clause in his deal that expires in 2024, and Roberto De Zerbi’s side would have to ‘pay up to €2m’ to Saarbrücken, if they wish to sign Kerber in January.

Brighton officials have not contacted the German club with a specific offer so far. Should the Seagulls come forward to sign Kerber, it will not only benefit Saarbrücken financially but also be a ‘great award for the good youth work of the association’.

Saarbrücken sporting director Jürgen Luginger has stated there hasn’t been an approach from Brighton or another club for Kerber.

“No one has come forward yet. I don’t know anything about this subject other than the newspaper article. Luca is in very good hands here and also has a sporting perspective with us,” Luginger said, as quoted by Kicker.
