Brighton & Hove Albion have authorised Alexis Mac Allister to take part in the Tokyo Olympics, according to reports from the Argentine media.

TyC Sports writes that manager Fernando Batista received the ‘good news’ today, as even though the call-up hasn’t been made yet, the player is expected to be in the list.

There had been rumours that Brighton wouldn’t let Mac Allister join the U23 squad, as clubs aren’t forced to release their players for the tournament, unlike with FIFA competitions. But now it seems they’ve said yes to the 22-year-old.

Football will be played in the Tokyo Olympics between the 21st of July and 7th of August. That means the midfielder will lose most of pre-season with the Seagulls.

Still, he should be back in England in time for the start of the season. The Premier League released its 2021/22 fixtures earlier today, and Brighton are facing Burnley on the weekend of the 14th of August, one week after the end of Olympics.

There’s also the chance of Argentina going home long before that.
