Brighton and Hove Albion will need to pay $15m if they want to sign Boca Juniors midfielder Equi Fernández this summer.

That’s according to Boca Noticias, who report that the Argentine side are open to a sale but will only take that stance if interested parties pay the midfielder’s release clause.

BN report that Boca want to earn a lot of money in this transfer market so they can reshape their squad and look at more experienced players to strengthen the team. One of the players they want to sell is Equi Fernández.

Several sides in Europe have already expressed a desire to sign him this summer and so Boca have made their stance clear. They want Fernández’s $15m release clause paid up.

At the moment Atletico Madrid are the most interested in him but Porto and Brighton have also expressed an interest in the past and could be part of the bidding too.

Brighton’s interest is nothing new as they were repeatedly linked with a move for him earlier this year and in the last few months of last year when they were wrapping up a deal for Valentin Barco.

Those reports suggested they would jump for Fernández once that deal was done but they never did and he remained in Argentina, earning fans and it seems more admirers in Europe.

Now they’re being linked again, although it will take activating that $15m clause and talking to Boca Juniors, a club who very much don’t like them.
