New Brighton and Hove Albion signing Zadok Yohanna will earn around €68,000 a week, after joining the Seagulls last week.
Fotboll Direkt report on the 18-year-old today after Brighton swooped to secure his signature ahead of Newcastle United last week.
Dream salary at Brighton
The newspaper explains that Sweden’s most expensive sale ever is set to earn a ‘dream salary’ with Brighton moving forwards.
The winger is enjoying a meteoric rise, having gone from playing on a Nigerian makeshift pitches to a better life in Sweden. AIK noticed him playing in a tournament in his homeland and signed him in a €750,000 deal in July last year.
Now he’s in the Premier League after a €28m move to Brighton, the most expensive sale ever from the Swedish Allsvenskan. That deal not only saved AIK’s finances but also gave the youngster a huge financial boost.
He’s gone from not having access to real football boots or footballs on a substandard surface to the Premier League and roughly SEK 750,000 a week. That’s a monthly salary of SEK 2.5-3m and SEK 36 million a year.
Converted to Euros, Zadok Yohanna is now earning around €68,000 a week with Brighton. That’s around €272,000 a month and €3.2m a year.
What happens next?
It is, perhaps, a clear sign of Brighton’s faith in him. Indeed, at those figures, he should be a regular in the Premier League next season.
Brighton certainly have no problem blooding youngsters such as Yohanna and dropping them straight into Premier League action.
The alternative option is that Yohanna spends a season or two out on loan to develop in Europe. He would then return and become a Brighton first team player in future. That’s also something they’ve done in the past to great success as well.
Either way, Yohanna is set. He’s secured his big move to the Premier League and the dream salary to go along with it as well.
