Brighton and Hove Albion are showing ‘very serious’ interest in Sevilla defender Juanlu but aren’t willing to pay his €25m release clause.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say a deal may be there to be done as the Spanish side look for capital gains on players to balance the books.

Selling a young like Juanlu would allow them to do just that and Brighton are showing a serious interest in him according to Estadio’s information.

They state that while the Premier League side may have funds to spend, particularly after a summer that included several big sales, as well as the financial strength English sides tend to have, they are not yet ready to pay €25m for the player. This is despite reports saying they are.

Instead, their ‘informative tests’ so far have been looking at ‘offers significantly lower’ than that figure for now.

Juanlu has been valued at €3m by websites such as Transfermarkt but Estadio’s information is that Sevilla value the defender, who has a contract until 2026, at around €15m.

They consider that a ‘feasible’ figure to achieve and would consider it ‘more than interesting’ were Brighton or anyone else to offer it for him as it would be pure profit.

Whether that’s a figure the Seagulls consider as fair remains to be seen but their interest is serious and something to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
