Sander Berge was a regular fixture in Genk’s midfield last season as his side went on to win the title.
Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws claims the 21-year-old’s performances for Genk have drawn attention from Brighton & Hove Albion and Premier League new boys Sheffield United.
It is claimed Chris Wilder’s side made an ‘official offer’ to secure the services of the Norway international, but details of the proposal aren’t mentioned in the report.
The Blades’ approach was turned down by the defensive midfielder because he’s ‘aiming higher’ than a newly promoted side.
Brighton have already signed Leonardo Trossard from Genk and the report explains the Seagulls are now ‘showing interest’ in Berge.
Berge has an agreement with Genk to leave in the summer transfer window, if the club receive a good offer for him. The Belgian side are hoping to get around €25m from the sale of the highly rated Norway international.
His opinion on a move to Brighton isn’t shared.
