This summer, Brighton & Hove Albion were one of the clubs said to be keen on signing of Lucas Beraldo from São Paulo.
At one stage, it was even said the Seagulls were in pole position in the race against other English clubs, even though the player ended up staying in Brazil.
Now it seems Brighton should have a tougher task to sign the player, because according to IG Esporte, São Paulo are in talks for a renewal.
The Brazilian side’s intention had always been to focus on titles this season, before deciding the future of their players. Now that they won the Copa do Brasil, there are advanced negotiations to give the midfielder a new deal.
IG claims there’s ‘expectations’ of offers from European clubs in the January transfer window, and it’s even recalled that Brighton tried to sign Beraldo in the ‘past few months’.
The report says São Paulo ‘rejected a negotiation’ with the Seagulls at the time, meaning they didn’t even listen to a bid at that stage.
So despite the renewal, perhaps there could at least be room for talks this time.
