Napoli’s plans to sign Billy Gilmour has rumbled on this week with a lot of confidence but no significant movement.
While Napoli seem keen on signing the Scotsman, they haven’t made a new bid for him. Previous reports in Italy have stated the Serie A club could sign the player for around €13m, and we’ve repeatedly stated that just seemed too low.
Gazzetta dello Sport now report Brighton have decided to ‘raise the price’ for Gilmour and made a demand of about €20m for him.
The report claims that initially, it seemed as if the deal could close at around €12m or €13m.
Napoli feel that the €20m demand is ‘unreachable’, and there’s a hope Brighton can come down to around €15m. Gilmour has reportedly already informed Brighton of his desire to leave.
Aside from the price, another issue for Napoli is they’re ‘running out of time’ to complete the deal to have the player ready for the start of Serie A.
Antonio Conte wants signings in and will be furious otherwise, so perhaps Napoli should have been more realistic with their offer.
