Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Matt O’Riley is waiting for negotiations to take place over a move to Roma.

That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who say the Italian side want to reduce Brighton’s asking price below €25m. That, though, may be ambitious thinking from them.

The newspaper explains that Roma will spend the next two days focused on outgoings and then they will turn their attention to signings to strengthen new manager Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad.

Roma are carefully monitoring the market for the players they need. Brighton midfielder O’Riley is a player that they like, and initial conversations have taken place. Now O’Riley is waiting for news from Roma.

He’s made it clear for several days that he is open to the move from Brighton, despite only joining them last summer. The Seagulls value him at €25m but Roma intend to try and get a discount on that figure. Gasperini is open to the move as he wanted the midfielder at Atalanta.

Getting Brighton down below €25m may be an ask, though, given that they paid €29.5m for him. Some of that figure has been amortised over the year, but the figure they’ve set is presumably the one which would help them to avoid any losses.

It’s up to Roma to work on them and figure out a deal and until they do, O’Riley is waiting for news on the potential transfer.
