Brighton & Hove Albion signed Bruno as a free agent in 2012 and after struggling in his debut season, he’s been a regular inclusion in his side’s right-back position until the end of the last season.

The Spaniard was an integral member of the Seagulls’ squad that achieved promotion to the Premier League after 34 years at the end of the 2016/17 season. This season, he has only played 26 minutes having lost his place to Martin Montoya.

Chris Hughton wanted to strengthen his fullback position and therefore signed the former Barcelona man from Valencia in the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old has so far made five starts in the league for the English club and is the preferred player on the right side of the back four, ahead of his compatriot.

Bruno was asked by Sport about his thoughts after the arrival of the 27-year-old to the American Express Community Stadium. He said, “I have always said that I hope they bring the best possible right back, because it will be a great challenge for me. I will have to try to improve my game.”

Brighton signed Ezequiel Schelotto from Sporting last summer and he made 15 starts in the Premier League, he was used as a winger on five occasions in his debut campaign.

The Italian failed to provide proper competition to the Spaniard, who was preferred ahead of the 29-year-old at right-back. Schelotto is still at the club and he, along with Montoya and Bruno, will challenge each other for a place in the starting lineup.
