It’s been a while since the English media started saying Martín Montoya could be leaving Brighton & Hove Albion this summer. And now it seems the player is close to completing his move back to his home country.

According to EFE (via La Vanguardia) today, the 29-year-old is currently in the city of Seville to conclude his transfer to Real Bétis.

The player is said to be negotiating the last details of a three-year contract with the La Liga side, and should then have his medical with the club.

EFE says this is a move ‘authorised by the English side’, but it isn’t detailed if Real Bétis are paying for the transfer or not, even though Montoya has a contract with Brighton until 2022.

Montoya joined Brighton in a €7m move from Valencia back in 2018. He made 56 appearances for the Seagulls in his two years at the club, and had become a rotation player in his last months there.

Estadio Deportivo, who also reports the negotiations, state Montoya could move for about €1m, with other bonuses depending on performance goals.
