Brighton’s long-running Igor Julio situation has now moved into concrete negotiations, with Cruzeiro making an official offer for the defender and growing confidence emerging around a deal.

After weeks of reports about interest, planning and financial manoeuvring in Brazil, the story has finally advanced.

According to ESPN Brazil journalists André Hernan and Bruno Andrade, Cruzeiro formally opened talks with Brighton on Monday in an attempt to sign the centre-back.

Offer on the table

Brighton are asking for around £5.1m (€6m) to sell the centre-back. Cruzeiro’s opening bid came in slightly below that amount, but the gap is considered small.

Cruzeiro have been ‘scrambling’ to fund his arrival. While they are yet to match the asking price, the effort is there. And as a result, people involved in the talks reportedly expect a positive outcome.

In fact, the negotiations are already described internally as “well advanced”. The main issue now is not the transfer fee itself, but the payment structure. Even so, there is confidence that the clubs can reach an agreement.

Cruzeiro pushing strongly for defender

Igor Julio has become a priority target for manager manager Artur Jorge, who wants defensive reinforcements ahead of the second half of the season.

The Brazilian side are also discussing a four-year contract with the player, who sees a return to Brazil positively despite attracting interest from clubs elsewhere in Europe.

ESPN says Igor Julio still has admirers in Italy, Germany and England, but Cruzeiro now appear to have moved ahead by turning interest into concrete negotiations.

Brighton exit now taking shape

The move also fits the direction Igor Julio’s situation has taken in recent months.

The defender returned to Brighton after a difficult loan spell at West Ham United, where he played four times between September 2025 and January 2026. He has since added one more appearance for the Seagulls.

Recent reports in Brazil already suggested Igor Julio was unlikely to stay at Brighton next season. Now, with formal talks underway and confidence growing around a deal, that possibility looks increasingly realistic.
