Brighton and Hove Albion met with agent Giuliano Bertolucci last week to discuss a move for Flamengo’s Matheus Gonçalves.
That’s according to RTI Esporte, who report that the 23-year-old may have his ‘days numbered’ at the Brazilian club after Brighton took the first step forward.
They explain that Flamengo intend to negotiate for the striker in the January transfer window and are already receiving ‘strong harassment’ from European teams and particularly English teams.
According to their information, Bertolucci met with representatives from Brighton last week. Their meeting took place in the Grand Hyatt in Barra da Tijuca, West Zone of Rio de Janeiro.
The meeting allowed Brighton to ‘study the scenario’ before presenting an official proposal to Flamengo for the player. The Brazilian club’s board is aware of the interest and ‘welcomes a possible negotiation’ at the beginning of next year.
Gonçalves is also interested in the transfer but wants to ‘receive guarantees’ that he will not be loaned out to gain experience at another club. This is being evaluated by Brighton at this moment in time.
Either way, they’ve opened the door and had the initial meeting, so Gonçalves is certainly a name to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
