Brighton and Hove Albion’s move for St. Pauli manager Fabian Hürzeler is not moving as quickly as some reports have suggested.
That’s according to MOPO, the club’s local paper, who insist that ‘nothing has really happened that could be described as progress’ in the talks.
Reports throughout this week have insisted that Hürzeler is closing in on a move to Brighton, who are on the hunt for Roberto De Zerbi’s replacement this summer.
Hürzeler appears to be the man they’ve chosen but MOPO are unimpressed by what they’ve been reading despite the reports being ‘almost overwhelming’ on the matter.
They say ‘a lot of people seem to know a lot’ about the matter and a lot more than ‘the people involved in the matter’.
According to their information, at least in the last 24 hours, nothing has really happened that could be described as progress.
They explain that while the world may have gone into meltdown after Fabrizio Romano posted on the topic, they argue that it should be taken into account that he is only fed information by one of the two parties involved.
Their belief is that the information this time is coming from ‘the one who has the greater interest in the deal being concluded’, so either Hürzeler or Brighton, and with the aim of putting pressure on the other side involved.
So, when Romano has reported this week that Brighton will definitely introduce Hürzeler as their new manager this week, one can assume that information didn’t’ come from St. Pauli.
In other words, they believe that certain information is being leaked to put pressure on the German side. At St. Pauli, though, they insist that a lot has to happen for that to be the case.
While it is undisputed that Brighton have made an offer that did not meet St. Pauli’s expectations and a move is nowhere near as advanced as has been suggested.
