Brighton and Hove Albion’s Deniz Undav has continued to flirt with a move away from the club in the summer as he shines at VfB Stuttgart.

The striker has been speaking to BILD about his career so far, his struggles early on and his enjoyment now things seem to be working out in Germany.

He returned to Germany in the summer with Stuttgart following a disappointing year at Brighton where he struggled to make an impact and eventually found himself replaced by Evan Ferguson.

The hope was that he could find his feet in the Bundesliga and get back to the kind of goalscoring form he had shown in Belgium, and he’s done just that with an impressive 13 goals and five assists in 17 games in the league so far.

Those numbers are earning him plenty of recognition, with a call-up to the Germany squad now almost a given, and questions being asked about his future at Brighton.

Stuttgart have a clause to make his loan deal a permanent one and seem likely to activate it, a happy scenario for the striker given the struggles he endured early in his career.

“I can say that I feel completely at home at VfB,” he said.

“We are a unit; the fans are amazing. A real team has come together. I can definitely imagine staying here longer. But my focus at the moment is on the current season. Then we’ll see.

“When I think about where I come from, the way other people talk about me is extreme. It makes me proud, especially for my family. That other people approach my mum and say: ‘Hey, your son, crazy!'”
