Atlético Madrid want to sign Brighton and Hove Albion star Alexis Mac Allister for next season after his impressive performances at the World Cup.
That’s according to Cadena SER, who say Diego Simeone’s side ‘want to fish’ for the Argentina midfielder and make him the new anchor in their team.
They, via journalist Francisco Jose Delgado, report that the Brighton man is the ‘chosen one’ for the ‘revolution’ that is being planned at the Wanda Metropolitano next season.
Simeone is the one pushing for the signing to be made, with him impressed by his compatriot and the performances he displayed in Qatar.
There are three Premier League clubs chasing his signature and Brighton are willing to negotiate for around €70m.
Atleti are willing to do battle with them, though, as they have identified him as a ‘medium-term target’ to strengthen next season. If possible, they would do a deal in January but the main aim is very much for next year.
Any potential move is dependent on the money they can make from sales, though. Joao Félix, Yannick Carrasco and Thomas Lemar have been put on the market.
