Brighton and Hove Albion have done everything they can to convince Mats Hummels to join them on a free transfer.

That’s according to Sky Sports Germany, who say the defender wants to make a decision on his future in the next seven days.

Hummels is currently enjoying life as a free agent after leaving Borussia Dortmund and is yet to make a decision on his future.

The 35-year-old has options on the table and Brighton are one of them, with several reports across this summer making that clear.

Sky now report that while Hummels is in no rush, he wants to make a decision on his sporting future in the next seven days. It’s a question of whether he retires or continues playing.

If it is the latter then he has a choice between RCD Mallorca, Real Sociedad and Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Premier League side have ‘thrown everything into the balance’ to convince Hummels of their project under new manager Fabian Hürzeler.

Hummels isn’t giving any hints, and a decision is still completely open at this moment in time. He is angling towards continuing his career, but it would not be surprising if he decided to retire.

Either way, a decision is coming in the next seven days and Brighton have played their cards to try and get him if he decides to continue.
