Brighton & Hove Albion have ‘opened negotiations’ for the signing of Inter Miami midfielder Diego Gómez, according to reports from the South American media.
Journalist Cesar Luis Merlo writes on Twitter that the Seagulls already placed a first offer, worth US$8.5m.
Inter Miami turned down the bid, though, and Brighton are now expected to try to improve it and close the deal.
Gomez had three goals and three assists in 13 appearances for the MLS side this season. He’s been sidelined for a while because of an ankle injury, and couldn’t even take part in the Copa América with the Paraguayan national team.
It was just last summer that the youngster left South America to move to the United States, with Inter Miami investing only €2.7m to sign him from Libertad.
Paraguay isn’t exactly a big football force, and that’s why it’s interesting that Gomez could find a compatriot at Brighton, with Julio Enciso there.
Not long ago, we saw West Ham United also being linked to the midfielder, so Brighton may be trying to anticipate the competition to get him signed.
